The aim of Women in Tech Hackathon Fiji WOMEN. TECHNOLOGY. SUSTAINABILITY. is to focus on building ideas related to technology and sustainability solutions.
The main goal is to provide a safe, well organised and welcoming space for women to have their first attempt at a hackathon.
Anna Andersone and Pauls Siliņš from Riga TechGirls will be mentoring the teams on site and Expert Mentors will join online to support the participants remotely.

How does it work?
Register
Let’s start at the beginning – registration. If you wish to participate, you have to register. Once registered, start thinking about the idea you’d like to tackle during the hackathon and at the beginning of it, we will help you find teammates, if you don’t have them already.
Then, of course, join us on October 14 so we can begin hacking!
Hack
The hacking starts with a short opening ceremony explaining what’s to come, introducing the prizes and evaluation criteria. Then you hack – work in teams and develop your ideas into solutions and prototypes. During the three days, there are four checkpoints with team mentors to ensure you are going the right way. It is mandatory for the teams to be at the checkpoints unless your team mentor tells you otherwise. Expert mentors will be available for consultations and support on October 15.
Submit
It is time for the final submission of your solutions, followed by demos and pitches in front of the jury. The jury chooses the winners, and they are announced right away. After the hackathon, there are no strings attached; you can freely continue the work on your ideas and solutions.
Mentoring
To ensure great teamwork and results we are inviting experts in the fields of technology and sustainability to join our forces! If you can spare anything from 2 hours while in the hackathon, please join our cause and register to be a mentor at the event website.
Jury
The hackathon teams and their creations will be valuated by jury members from partners and organizers who will help to decide on the best teams that should receive some prizes. The jury will evaluate teams work based on the following criteria:
Originality of the new product, process or service
– Uniqueness and features of product/process/service
– Degree to which the product/process/service is disruptive
Progress
– Has the team put in extra effort and challenged themselves during the hackathon
– How far have the team progressed with the project during the hackathon
Potential impact of the outcome
– Is there a problem being solved by the solution
– is the idea viable outside of the hackathon
Demo
– How good is the demo (how hard has the team worked)
Team Mentors
Team mentors will help to support the participants with what information, resources and what is possible to build during the hackathon.
Mentors
Expert mentors are professionals in a specific area and startup founders that will support the participants in the viability of their idea and its development.
